The Upper West Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has secured the conviction of two men in separate sexual offence cases, resulting in prison sentences of 10 years and 20 years respectively, as authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and prosecuting perpetrators of sexual and domestic abuse.
The convictions, announced in separate press releases issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Wa on July 23 and July 26, 2026, involved a child defilement case in Wa and an incest case in Lawra in the Upper West Region.
In the first case, the police said the Regional Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) secured the conviction and sentencing of 42-year-old Elyasu Kunateh for the defilement of a seven-year-old boy in Wa.
According to the statement, the convict was arrested on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after the victim's mother reported the incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
