The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority has sought closer collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to curb fraudulent practices in the state’s real estate sector.
In a statement obtained from the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page on Sunday, the government said officials of LASRERA recently paid a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate I to strengthen existing cooperation between both agencies in tackling property-related fraud.
Speaking during the visit, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafis Toriola, said the engagement was aimed at deepening collaboration to identify, investigate and prosecute individuals and organisations involved in fraudulent real estate practices, including property flipping, document forgery and other related crimes.
According to the statement, both agencies agreed that stronger collaboration would improve enforcement efforts and better protect members of the public from fraudulent activities in the property market.
The Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Adebayo Adeniyi, said complaints relating to the real estate sector accounted for a significant proportion of cases handled by the commission, highlighting the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation.
