Greek long-jump sensation Miltos Tentoglou measured a world-leading 8.66 meters on Sunday at the national championship, matching the national record that is 19 years old.
Tentoglou has won all titles available in his career already, but had not yet managed to beat the mark of Louis Tsatoumas from June 2007.
Yet on Sunday in Volos he broke his personal best and matched Tsatoumas’ record, without being able to beat it just yet.
His first jump at 8.52 m. showed he was ready for the big record on the day. He then reached 8.66 m., but that record would not count due to the favorable wind being above the limit, at 2.7 m/sec. In what looked like a replay of his second attempt, he made 8.66 m. again in his third one, but this time the record stood, as the wind was not above the limit.
Tentoglou even pushed further to make the national record exclusively his, and reached 8.64 m. in his final attempt (that later he described as his best jump ever), showing he is going through a season that may well prove to be historic.
