The Israeli military said a violent confrontation broke out between Israelis and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on Saturday, a day after clashes elsewhere in the territory left six people dead.Violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank has surged since the Gaza war began with Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel.For the latest updates on the Israel-Palestine conflict, visit our dedicated page.The military said Saturday’s confrontation developed in the hilltop settlement of Susya in the southern West Bank, where Israelis and Palestinians threw rocks at each other.“Subsequently, a terrorist stole the weapon of one of the (Israeli) civilians, and shots were fired into the air,” the military said.“In addition, one Israeli civilian was injured as a result of the rock-hurling and was evacuated to receive medical treatment,” it said, adding soldiers were pursuing the “terrorist and have set up roadblocks in the area.”Palestinian officials did not immediately comment on the incident.On Friday, a similar clash between Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the village of Tell in northern West Bank resulted in the deaths of two Israelis and four Palestinians.Excluding east Jerusalem, more than 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank, which are illegal under international law.Israeli figures show that at least 48 Israelis, including civilians and security personnel, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations since the start of the Gaza war.According to an AFP tally based on data from the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli soldiers or settlers have killed at least 1,097 Palestinians, including both militants and civilians, over the same period.Read more: Israel launches military operation after deadly clash near Palestinian village
