YouTube food critic Gary Hanna has given a glowing 10-star review of Ynyshir restaurant in Wales, where he spent a significant three-figure sum on the unique experience14:13, 26 Jul 2026Wales is one of the culinary hubs of the United Kingdom with many restaurants having delighting customers from all over the world for decades. However, every so often, there is one which comes out and attracts food critics from across the public spectrum to come through it's doors. One restaurant is Ynyshir, run by chef Gareth Ward and his partner Amelia, in western Wales in Eglwys Fach, north east of Aberystwyth and directly west of Aberdyfi. On TripAdvisor, Ynyshir holds the top spot as the number one hotel in Eglwys Fach, boasting an average rating of 4.6 out of five across 465 reviews. The Michelin Guide has also heaped praise on the restaurant. They concluded: "For a truly unique experience, head for rural Wales and this matt-black house with an immersive approach and a mellow soundtrack."The evening starts early, which gives Chef-Owner Gareth Ward five hours to take diners on a playful culinary journey around the globe."He has a particular reverence for Japanese cuisine, with sashimi and A5 Wagyu beef likely to appear on the surprise menu of around 30 vibrant servings, all using outstanding produce prepared with superb craft."A recent visitor was food critic Gary Hanna who is also known as Gary Eats.Gary, who posted his review of the venue earlier this month, revealed that he'd spent a lot of money on a 30-course meal at the venue. Nevertheless, he was bowled over by it.The content creator, accompanied by a cameraman, was overwhelmingly glowing in his assessment. As for the price, he said: "How much did this cost? £540 per person. You book in advance... The only way you can understand what I've just experienced is experience it yourself."Not every dish was to my liking and we actually disagreed on certain points. The other thing is you think this has gone on all night and it takes forever to do.... It took just over five hours."Despite the high cost, Gary said it was worth the money because of the memorable experience while there, one he said was akin to being in a dream and that it could be worth staying there too and booking one of the rooms. He explained: "If you are a massive foodie this is definitely for you. What I suggest you do is actually come here, book a hotel and have the whole experience and enjoy the ambience of some of wonderful wines, whiskies, etc etc.Article continues below"The marks I'm giving it is 10 stars. It's a simple 10 star. Quite a few are going to say it's ridiculous price. Yes, it is a ridiculous price. Are you paying for the whole experience? You're paying for this. You're paying for a dream and that's what it is. I think it's their dream, they have smashed it out of the park."
