She maintains she stayed in an apartment, not a hotel.
The scandal-hit Department of Social Development (DSD) has been drawn into yet another controversy after allegations emerged that its chief director of communications, Sandy Godlwana, spent more than R670 000 on accommodation while serving in an acting capacity.
The latest claims come as the department continues to grapple with a slew of controversies that have kept it in the public spotlight.
In May, President Cyril Ramaphosa fired then Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe following a string of scandals, including allegations that she misled the public about the use of two luxury Chinese sport utility vehicles donated to the ANC Women's League. The vehicles were later reportedly registered in her children's names, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.
Tolashe also faced criticism over the alleged irregular appointment of senior staff and allegations of her daughter dipping into the salary of a food aide, while ActionSA MP Dereleen James laid criminal charges against her for allegedly misleading Parliament.
