A man has said he was gobsmacked when his neighbour approached him with a demand that would cost him £11,000 - and his response to the refusal was even worse15:47, 25 Jul 2026Discovering you're living beside entitled neighbours can be utterly maddening. Whether your neighbours insist on blasting music into the small hours, persistently park their vehicle across your drive, or simply behave as though their property takes precedence over yours, selfish neighbours are an absolute nightmare.‌While plenty of us have endured experiences with neighbours from hell, one man on social media may well have clinched the prize for having the most infuriating neighbour going. This neighbour doesn't create excessive noise, never parks inappropriately, and isn't particularly rude - but one demand he made has cemented his status as "entitled".‌In a post on Reddit, the man explained his neighbour habitually "patrols" the area and enjoys informing fellow residents about any "city violations" they've committed as a "favour" to them. While this is somewhat irksome, the man doesn't find it overly bothersome and doesn't consider his neighbour that much of a pest.‌But last week, the neighbour approached the man to request a favour of his own - to co-sign a loan for $15,000 (£11,261) so he can whisk his family off to Disney World. The man wrote: "We have a neighbour who constantly 'patrols' the neighbourhood, always wants to know what each of us is doing, and likes to point out any city violation, as a 'favour'. We have never done anything social with him or his family in 10+ years living here.‌"Anyway, last week, he asked my wife if she and I would co-sign for him on a $15,000 loan so he could take his kids to Disney World. He said that times are tough, and this may be the only chance they have to get away and make memories for their family."When I found out what he wanted, I went to his house and let him know that we would not be co-signing for him. He got super p***** and slammed the door in my face."Co-signing the loan would mean that should the neighbour fail to repay what he owes, the responsibility would land squarely on the man and his wife to cover the debt, plus interest, leaving them more than £11,000 out of pocket for something from which they'd gain absolutely nothing.‌The man went on to reveal that his neighbour has since been doing the rounds, approaching other people on the street to see if any of them would be willing to co-sign in their place, apparently still hell-bent on securing the cash by any means necessary. Those commenting on the post urged the man to hold firm and refuse to cave, even if his neighbour keeps pushing and promises to repay every penny. They pointed out that loans typically only require a co-signer when a bank considers the borrower a significant financial risk - which would put the man's own money on the line. One commenter stated: "He needs a co-signer because any lending institution thinks he is highly likely to default, and they want someone else to be liable for the debt."Article continues belowAnother commented: "The chances of him defaulting on that loan seem high. There are lots of ways to have fun as a family that don't involve a $15,000 trip to Disney."A third observed: "Wow, entitlement! That would be a total loss. Good for you to say no and not be intimidated."Some even suggested they'd prefer living next to noisy neighbours who host "wild parties" rather than dealing with the situation the man had outlined in his post.
