The sentencing of the man who murdered a bystander outside a now-defunct Leslieville supervised injection site in 2023 hit a snag on Friday after his lawyer was removed from the case due to a breakdown in their relationship.

Damian Hudson, 35, has yet to be sentenced after being convicted by a jury in December of second-degree murder in the shooting of 44-year-old Karolina Huebner-Makurat. The mother of two young daughters was walking to meet a friend for lunch when she was caught in the crossfire outside the South Riverdale Community Health Centre on Queen Street East as Hudson shot at two men who were trying to rob the known drug dealer.
