Former CEO of Pro Secure Ferrel Govender at the Durban High Court on Friday.
Murder-accused former security boss Ferrel Govender has denied that he was the aggressor during an altercation with his girlfriend, Salona Ramrutton/Kisten, on December 22, 2024, claiming that she slapped him first and that he retaliated by punching her.
The version was put to a State witness during cross-examination in the Durban High Court on Friday. The witness, who cannot be identified, previously testified that she witnessed Govender brutally assault Ramrutton/Kisten and later fire several shots in her direction.
The alleged assault occurred a week before Govender and his younger brother, Darren, allegedly shot and killed businessman Shailen Singh in Umhlanga on December 29, 2024. The State alleges Singh and Ramrutton/Kisten were involved in an affair.
Advocate Mike Hellens SC, representing Govender, put it to the witness that during a discussion aimed at reconciling the couple, Govender rejected the proposed mediation, prompting Ramrutton/Kisten to become angry, jump off the couch, and slap him.
