South Korea just made a $950 billion bet that the AI boom isn’t slowing down anytime soon. SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics have signed long-term memory chip supply partnerships with major US technology companies, combining for what may be the largest semiconductor supply commitment in history.
SK Hynix is set to supply $750 billion worth of chips, primarily to Nvidia. Samsung Electronics will contribute $200 billion in chip supply to Broadcom.
What’s actually being sold here
The deals center on high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, the specialized chips that sit inside the AI accelerators powering data centers around the world.
SK Hynix has been Nvidia’s largest memory supplier, a relationship that has turned the Korean chipmaker into one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI infrastructure buildout. This new agreement essentially extends and dramatically scales that existing partnership.
