The 68-year-old said that he and Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon had an understanding from the beginning that he would only coach the team through the remainder of the season before stepping away.Speaking about his experience with the Golden Knights, Tortorella stated that he is grateful for his time with Vegas but said he wanted to “finish the job.”He noted, "We didn't finish the job, and I wanted some more time with that club to try to finish the job. That's not my call. That's the general manager and president's call. You just get about your business after that."But as he has parted ways with the team, the coach has revealed that he is looking for another coaching job after this season. In a recent interview with Joe Smith of The Athletic, he expressed his desire to join as a head coach in the NHL somewhere. “Oh, I want to coach. I want to coach now,” Tortorella said. “I’m not sure if that happens, and that’s where I am in my career. But I wanted to coach that Vegas team. I told (general manager Kelly McCrimmon) that.” (source: Heavy)Although Tortorella is not sure if any team would approach him for a coaching job, given his experience with the Vegas Golden Knights, it is clear that he can lead any NHL team to success with the right coaching strategy. But the situation is still uncertain, as the coach follows a very old-school method of coaching. Though it has worked on the Golden Knights, it might not apply to others, which is why no teams want to take a risk that may completely upset the culture of an organization.During his stint with the Vegas Golden Knights, he quickly turned the team's fortunes around, guiding Vegas to a 7-0-1 finish, a Pacific Division title and a run to the Stanley Cup Final, but the Golden Knights fell short to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games.According to The Athletic, Tortorella won the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004. Throughout his 24-year career, he has registered 777 wins in 1,628 games, coaching for the Lightning, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers and Golden Knights. He also captured the Jack Adams Award twice as the league's coach of the year.
