June 16 (UPI) -- Coach John Tortorella, who led the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final, will not return next season, the franchise announced Tuesday.

The Golden Knights hired Tortorella in March to replace fired coach Bruce Cassidy. He led the Golden Knights to a 7-0-1 record to end the regular season. The Golden Knights went 14-8 this postseason, including their 4-2 Stanley Cup Final series loss to the champion Carolina Hurricanes.

"We thank Torts for the guidance he provided our team since joining the organization in March," Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said in a news release.

"When the decision was made to bring Torts to Vegas, we needed an immediate impact to help us at a pivotal point in the season. Torts' experience and leadership proved to be the boost that we were looking for, helping guide us to the Stanley Cup Final. We are grateful for Torts' passion, sincerity, and commitment to our organization, and we wish him and his family the best."
