ALBAWABA — In light of escalating regional tensions and the potential for an unanticipated security escalation in the next few days, the United States has issued new security advisories through its embassies and consulates around the Middle East, advising American people to stay vigilant.The U.S. Embassy in Israel, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, and the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil issued the advisory, warning that the security situation in the Middle East is still unstable and might suddenly worsen.U.S. officials advised Americans who are already in the Middle East to stay informed, remain vigilant, and get ready for any disruptions, such as flight cancellations and unexpected airspace closures. They also urged Americans to reevaluate non-essential travel to or through the region.According to the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, commercial aviation has already been impacted by the changing security situation; some airlines have canceled routes completely, while others have delayed the start of flights. Before leaving, travelers were urged to confirm flight times directly with airlines and airports. The advice states that Iran and its allies may try to harm US interests, US-affiliated facilities, or US individuals abroad.Additionally, Americans were cautioned to stay away from protests, big public events, and places with a lot of security, and to be especially cautious near places that are openly linked with the United States.The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad affirmed that its mission is still in operation despite the increased alert. Consular services are still offered to U.S. citizens in both Baghdad and Erbil, although obligatory departure orders for specific staff are still in place.
