Vociferously supporting the students’ ongoing agitation, Puthiya Tamilagam president K. Krishnasamy has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he said the NEET question paper leak had caused depression among 21 lakh-odd students appearing for this examination, and that the ongoing protest by the students in Delhi was a clear indication of the depression they were going through. Hence, he said, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, taking responsibility for NEET question paper leak, should resign.The governments conducting various competitive examinations, including Civil Services Examination, NEET, JEE and Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission examinations, should take steps to conduct them in a foolproof and transparent manner.“Hence, the PT supports the ongoing protest condemning the NEET question paper leak and demanding the resignation of the minister,” said the party president.When asked if he was supporting the protesting students’ demand for annulling NEET, he gave an evasive reply, saying that the PT was supporting the students’ protest seeking the Minister’s resignation.The PT chief criticised that the people in power, including the ministers, were enjoying the screening of Chief Minister Vijay-starer ‘Jana Nayagan’ and shedding tears even as a nation-wide agitation was going on.Terming the suspicious death of Arunachalam of Thoothukudi as ‘custodial death’, the PT founder said the due investigation should be conducted to bring out the truth and the State Government should put an end to the custodial deaths happening repeatedly in Tamil Nadu.The PT president, who had a meeting with a few organisations here on Thursday night to decide the future of the Manjolai tea estate workers, said the labourers, who were living there for six generations, were being indirectly forced to leave their ‘homeland’ by denying them power, drinking water, and essential commodities through ration shops, public transport, etc. The Tamil Nadu Government should implement the Forest Rights Act 2006 to protect the basic rights of Manjolai tea estate workers.
