Both battery-electric models now qualify for the government’s £3,750 Electric Car Grant (ECG). The grant applies to the eDrive20 versions of both compact electric SUVs, including the newly introduced iX2 eDrive20 Sport.
Following the price reductions, the iX1 eDrive20 Sport now starts at £37,065 before the grant, down from £43,555 previously. After applying the £3,750 incentive, it is available from £33,315. The iX2 eDrive20 Sport is priced identically, while the iX1 eDrive20 xLine starts at £35,315 after the grant. The iX1 eDrive20 M Sport and iX2 eDrive20 M Sport are both available from £38,065.
BMW notes that the iX1 eDrive20 Sport now undercuts the comparable petrol-powered X1 sDrive20i Sport, which starts at £37,540.
“Securing the full Electric Car Grant for the BMW iX1 and BMW iX2 is an important step in making premium electric mobility more accessible to customers across the UK,” said Debbie McIntosh, Sales Director at BMW UK. “With their combination of driving enjoyment, quality and everyday practicality, both models are a compelling choice for customers considering an all-electric BMW.”
BMW says its eligibility for the Band 1 grant also reflects its manufacturing processes and sustainability strategy, including Science Based Targets initiative commitments and the use of renewable electricity. At the Regensburg plant in Germany, where the X1 and X2 are built, part of the site’s electricity demand is supplied by more than 25,000 square metres of rooftop photovoltaic panels, generating around 2.9 GWh of renewable electricity per year.
