The BMW X3 had almost ten times more sales than the BMW iX in the first quarter (17,767 versus 1,788), but is the new iX3 going to shake things up? Based on the key facts we’ve seen released about it, it should! The new iX3 is coming in a whopping $5,000 cheaper than the comparable version of the gas-powered BMW X3. That said, it’s still about $10,000 more than the base BMW X3, so we’ll see.
It should be noted that the BMW X3 didn’t always outsell its in-house electric competitor by so much. In the first quarter of 2025, for example, the X3 had 11,235 sales while the iX had 3,626 — so, just a little more than three times as many sales. And the iX3 raises the bar in key ways.
Whereas the iX had a starting price of $75,150, the new iX3 will start at $61,500. Yes, it’s still not a cheap vehicle, but it’s a BMW SUV, not a Nissan Sentra. A $14,000 lower price is significant, though.
The iX3 also offers 434 miles of range, whereas the range of the BMW iX was rated between 283 and 312 miles. I don’t really see the need for more than 280 miles of range anyway, but a lot of buyers do value all that extra range significantly, and perhaps even held off on buying an EV until they could get one with 400+ miles of range.
