Email security company AegisAI announced on Thursday that it has raised $36 million in a Series A funding round.

The round was led by Battery Ventures, with participation from Accel and Foundation Capital. The new capital brings AegisAI’s total funding to $49 million, and the company says it will put the money toward expanding its lineup of autonomous detection agents, pushing its Vanguard agent toward general availability, and growing its enterprise go-to-market efforts.

AegisAI was founded in 2025 by Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, who previously worked on Google’s security team and helped build reCAPTCHA, Safe Browsing and Web Risk. The company emerged from stealth in September 2025.

The startup’s platform is built around a network of AI agents that review incoming email for signs of phishing, business email compromise and other threats. Rather than relying on static rules or known-bad signatures, the system is designed to evaluate the intent and identity behind a message.

The product connects to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace through an API, which the company says requires no changes to a customer’s MX records. In March, AegisAI introduced Vanguard, a companion agent that investigates suspicious links and attachments by navigating to them the way a human recipient would, then compiles a threat report within minutes.
