Quantum computers are powerful in theory and frustrating in practice. The machines can, on paper, solve problems that would take classical computers millennia. In reality, they keep making mistakes. Qedma, a Tel Aviv-based startup, just plugged its error-fixing software into one of the most advanced quantum platforms on the planet to do something about it.

On July 23, Qedma announced that its Quantum Error Suppression and Error Mitigation software, known as QESEM, has been fully integrated with Quantinuum’s quantum computing platform. The partnership, born from a year-long technical collaboration under Quantinuum’s Startup Partner Program, lets users of Quantinuum’s trapped-ion systems run quantum circuits with significantly fewer errors.

Why errors matter more than qubits

Quantinuum’s trapped-ion systems are already among the best in the business at keeping errors low. The company’s Helios system achieved an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921% as of late 2025. In English: out of every 10,000 two-qubit operations, roughly 8 go wrong. That sounds great until you realize complex algorithms can require millions of operations.

QESEM addresses this by transforming standardized algorithms before they run on the hardware, essentially re-engineering the computation to suppress noise at the software level. It’s hardware-agnostic, meaning it doesn’t care whether it’s running on trapped ions, superconducting qubits, or anything else. The software is also available as a Qiskit Function on IBM’s Quantum platform, giving Qedma two major distribution channels.
