The reshuffle comes after the influential CDU parliamentary leader stepped down amid amid controversy over a surrogate pregnancy
BERLIN – Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, announced on Friday morning a cabinet reshuffle, with at least three ministerial posts set to change hands.
Health Minister Nina Warken will become head of the chancellery, replacing Thorsten Frei.
Frei, in turn, will take over as leader of Merz’s conservative CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag. CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann, meanwhile, is set to replace Warken as health minister.
According to public broadcaster Tagesschau, Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder is also expected to be replaced, although Merz has yet to officially confirm the move.
