A British government spokesperson told Reuters that the United Kingdom’s armed forces stand fully prepared to defend the nation against any form of attack following threats issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
On Thursday, July 23, the IRGC warned London over the reported deployment of American bombers operating from British military installations.
“Our armed forces are ready to protect the United Kingdom against any attack, whether at home or abroad. The UK maintains a continuous state of readiness to defend itself,” the British government spokesperson stated.
According to Reuters, the spokesperson specified that this defensive posture incorporates a “multilayered air and missile defence system, combining capabilities across the Royal Navy, the British Army, and the Royal Air Force, utilising advanced systems and close integration with NATO allies.”
In March, during the 40-day war involving Israel and the United States, the IRGC targeted the British air base at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. At that time, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that London had approved a U.S. request to utilise British military bases for “defensive” operations.
