A vessel operated by the European Union’s border agency Frontex rescued 42 migrants south of the island of Crete on Friday, authorities said.
The migrant boat was spotted by a Frontex aircraft about 57 nautical miles south-southeast of the port of Kaloi Limenes, in the regional unit of Iraklio.
A Frontex vessel carried out the rescue operation with assistance from three cargo ships sailing in the area.
The rescued migrants were transported safely to the port of Kaloi Limenes.
