Veteran coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that the South African Football Association (Safa) has held discussions with him as part of its succession planning for the Bafana Bafana head coach position.
Mosimane’s revelation comes as uncertainty continues to surround the future of incumbent coach Hugo Broos, whose contract expires at the end of the month.
Broos recently indicated in an interview in his native Belgium that his tenure as Bafana coach had come to an end, despite guiding South Africa to back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations appearances and a historic Round-of-32 finish at the Fifa World Cup.
Safa, however, swiftly dismissed reports that the Belgian had left his post, insisting he remains the national team coach. This week, reports emerged that Broos could be offered a one-year contract extension while the association identifies a long-term successor, although Safa has also denied those claims.
