Seventeen African-founded, Africa-headquartered or Africa-focused companies have earned recognition in CNBC and Statista’s World’s Top Fintech Companies 2026 list, highlighting the continent’s growing influence in a sector increasingly defined by scale, profitability and regulatory maturity.
The recognition comes as African fintech firms expand beyond mobile money and payments into digital banking, lending, insurance and financial infrastructure while continuing to attract investment.
CNBC noted that the fintech industry is entering a more mature phase as artificial intelligence challenges existing financial infrastructure and creates new opportunities for innovative companies.
The global ranking features 500 companies selected from more than 3,500 candidates across eight segments: payments, neobanking, alternative financing, wealth technology, digital assets, enterprise fintech, insurtech and regtech.
CNBC and Statista assessed the companies using an aggregated scoring model that considered both overall and segment-specific key performance indicators.
