Gauteng's dominance in residential building activity continues to fade.
During the five years before the Covid-19 pandemic, the province accounted for 41.1% of all residential building plans approved in South Africa, says Sandra Gordon, an independent research economist.
She says that over the past five years, that share has slipped to 33.3%.
“The more interesting shift, however, is happening within Gauteng itself,” Gordon says.
