Kosovo’s ambassador pushes for EU membership despite political deadlock
Kosovo should be granted EU candidate status and must progress irrespective of Serbia, its ambassador in Brussels, Agron Bajrami, told Euractiv.
Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008, but five EU member states still do not recognise it. Spain, which faces separatist movements, has been particularly reluctant to do so.
The small Western Balkan country is the only one in the region that has not received candidate status, despite being more than ready, Bajrami argued.
“Kosovo is further along than any other country was by the time it received candidate status,” he said.
