Jordanian and American military chiefs discuss defense coordination amid regional tensions
WASHINGTON: Jordan’s top military commander held high-level talks at the Pentagon as Amman and Washington seek to strengthen defense coordination amid the recent Iranian attacks that have targeted Jordan and other US allies in the Middle East.
Maj. Gen. Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaiti, chairperson of Jordan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Gen. Christopher J. Mahoney, vice chair of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, discussed the expansion of military cooperation and the coordination of their responses to evolving security threats, Jordan’s Petra news agency reported.
Their talks on Wednesday focused in particular on enhancement of joint military training, operational readiness, defense capabilities and the exchange of expertise between their armed forces. They also reviewed the latest regional developments and the implications for security and stability, and stressed the importance of strengthening defense cooperation to address shared security challenges and improve coordination on issues of mutual interest.
The meeting was one of a series of engagements during Al-Hunaiti’s official visit to Washington, which aims to expand military cooperation and strategic coordination between the longtime allies.
