Renowned Nigerian artist, Duke Asidere will present Udu Umadon (Heart of Steel), a landmark solo exhibition by acclaimed sculptor Matt Ehizele, at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos, from 18th to 25th July 2026. The exhibition celebrates Ehizele’s exceptional artistic journey and his enduring contribution to contemporary Nigerian sculpture through a remarkable collection of steel works that transform industrial material into compelling expressions of humanity, culture, resilience, and identity.
Udu Umadon, an Edo phrase meaning Heart of Steel captures the essence of Ehizele’s artistic philosophy. For more than four decades, the distinguished sculptor has explored the expressive possibilities of steel, reshaping discarded industrial materials into elegant figurative sculptures that embody strength, grace, memory, and cultural pride. His works reveal the emotional potential of one of the world’s hardest materials, inviting audiences to discover beauty, hope, and resilience forged from steel.
Presented by Duke Asidere, one of Nigeria’s most respected contemporary painters, the exhibition represents a meaningful convergence of two outstanding figures in Nigerian visual arts.
