Everyone loves good, crispy fries

There is nothing quite like biting into a perfectly crispy French fry, golden and crunchy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The good news is that you do not need a deep fryer or a restaurant kitchen to achieve that takeout-style crunch at home. It all comes down to a few simple tricks.

The first step is choosing the right potato. Starchy varieties, such as russet potatoes, work best because they create a crisp exterior while staying fluffy inside.

Once cut, soak the potato strips in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch, helping the fries become crisp rather than sticky. After soaking, dry them thoroughly with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, as moisture is the enemy of crunchy fries.

One of the biggest secrets behind restaurant-quality fries is the double-fry method. Fry the potatoes first at a lower temperature, around 160°C, until cooked through but still pale. Let them rest for 10 minutes before frying them a second time at 190°C until golden and crispy. The first fry cooks the inside, while the second creates that irresistible crunch.
