Mexican Institute of Sound & Meridian Brothers Are Taking Their Tropical Madness on Tour: ‘I’ve Never Faced Such a Huge Challenge’

Camilo Lara talks about the collaborative album that sparked the tour that Ruido Tovar named in honor of Mexican cumbia icon of the same name.

After wrapping up his “most World Cup-focused” phase — following his role as one of the music producers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — Mexican artist Camilo Lara is ready to return to the stage as Mexican Institute of Sound (MIS) and the Colombian band Meridian Brothers to perform songs from their recent collaborative album Ruido Tovar live.

The concert series kicks off on Saturday (July 25) at the Calgary Folk Music Festival in Alberta, Canada, where Lara and Eblis Álvarez, founder of Meridian Brothers, will perform live for the first time the tracks from their LP, inspired by the Mexican cumbia legend Rigo Tovar.
