With confusion continuing to prevail among sections of the public over rumours that 90-square yard house plots on Waqf land given on lease to those belonging to economically weaker sections, members of the Telangana State Waqf Board (TGSWB) reiterated that no such scheme exists.TGSWB Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseini had recently clarified that the Board had neither announced nor approved any scheme to allot Waqf land to poor families, imams, muezzins, or their kin. He stated that rumours had created confusion among the public and, appealed to imams and muezzins not to believe such claims. No applications would be entertained as there was “no truth” in the rumours. He said the Board condemned the misinformation and warned that legal action could be initiated if it continued. He added that the State government’s Indiramma Housing Scheme was available for all eligible beneficiaries.Echoing the Board’s position, Waqf Board member Syed Bandagi Badshah Qadri on Thursday advised people against playing with public sentiment. He said no individual or authority had the power to allot Waqf land. By definition, he stated that waqf land parcels belonged to God and were held only in trust for the welfare of the community.Describing the reports of land allotment as baseless, he said the Board had neither launched any scheme nor issued application forms for such a purpose. He said women had been approaching the Waqf Board carrying applications in the hope of securing land, only to be misled and waste their time and money.Meanwhile, the Telangana Waqf Board announced that it had formally handed over records relating to the Andhra Pradesh State Waqf Board that had remained with Telangana following the bifurcation of the erstwhile State.The records, comprising 3,503 Waqf files, 4,050 Survey Commissioner reports and two Gazette notifications were handed over by Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Asadullah to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Khazi Yousuf Basha in the presence Mr. Husseini. The Board said that the transfer was carried out in compliance with government directions after the records were identified, segregated and verified. The long pending process has now been completed.
