The Telangana State Waqf Board (TGWB) is holding on to its stand that the 2,500 square yard land parcel in Shaikpet, now disputed as defence land, is waqf endowed property.
The land parcel gains significance in the run-up to the Jubilee Hills byelection, with the Telangana government and the TGWB earmarking the land parcel as a graveyard, on grounds of several representations from the Muslim community of the constituency.
But, soon after ministers including in-charge District and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Minister for Minorities Welfare Adluri Laxman and other politicians, made the announcement, Army personnel claimed the land parcel as defence land.
“Our team recently went, and met Army officials and showed them the documents that support nature of the land as waqf land,” TGWB Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni told The Hindu.
