Suhal Shaikh found a Vervet monkey suffocated with a plastic bag and abandoned inside a cardboard box close to his property.
A troubling incident of animal cruelty occurred in Tongaat after local businessman Suhal Shaikh found a Vervet monkey suffocated with a plastic bag and abandoned inside a cardboard box close to his property.
Shaikh, of Main Road, who owns a samoosa business, said he hoped the police would find the person who tortured and killed the monkey, and called for witnesses to come forward.
“I was driving out of my property on Tuesday when I spotted the cardboard box along the driveway. The monkey was inside and a plastic bag covered its head. I did not inspect it for injuries as it was dead. I then called Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) to assist,” said Shaikh.
He said a troop of monkeys frequented the area and ate the off-cuts from the samoosa purr every day.
