After gutting the system that let players stream their own titles, Amazon is moving the Luna streaming service into Prime Video’s residence.
Amazon decisively cut some of the features that may have set it apart from other game streaming services earlier this year. The ability to bring your own titles to play and connect to other services like Ubisoft+ or EA was stripped away. That might have been predictable, given that the company began shifting towards a party-like experience under a “reimagined” app.
The app isn’t going anywhere, but Amazon announced that Prime subscribers will be able to access games with their existing monthly subscription. After all, Amazon says Luna is built for players who don’t have access to gaming PCs or consoles. The app can serve as that access, with titles like Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle available.
It should be as easy as opening the “Games” tab and connecting a controller or your phone. From there, it can be a single or multiplayer experience with little setup.
The release details who will get access to Luna through Prime Video first. Users on Fire TVs in the US and UK will get access starting today. Amazon makes no mention of whether the rollout will include Google TV or come to Samsung’s proprietary OS. For now, it looks like a first-party solution similar to Samsung’s Gaming Hub. Google has no such comparative integration since Google Stadia was killed off in 2023.
