TAMPA, Fla. — Once college football’s most famous social media poster, Lane Kiffin says he does not miss Instagram or X.The first-year LSU coach, who left College Football Playoff-bound Ole Miss for the Tigers last fall, has not posted on Instagram in more than two months. He hasn’t really posted on the app formerly known as Twitter since mid-May, either.You can thank (or blame) his son, Knox.As Kiffin explained Thursday at SEC media days, his son challenged him this spring to stay off social media.“So I just got off of everything,” Kiffin said. “Don’t even have the apps, so it’s not even like I read it, either.”Kiffin previously made regular contributions ranging from recruiting stops to restaurant menus to graphics about the Tigers’ other teams. At times, his book excerpts and subtweets lit up message boards. Every now and then, he trolled rivals.But the biggest change is more about Kiffin as a consumer. By avoiding the apps entirely, he ignores the inevitable comparisons that come with social media about what other people are doing or wearing.“When you don’t see that all day, you’re free of that comparison,” Kiffin said.He’s also says he’s free of what others are saying about him — probably a good thing, considering some of the backlash he continues to receive over his exit from Ole Miss. Kiffin shrugged off a question about whether he gets a bad rap.“Well, the good thing is I don’t know if I do because I don’t read anything,” Kiffin said. “So it really is a different way of not seeing.”Kiffin said he had no long-term plan when he started the cleanse in May. It doesn’t sound as if he has a plan to resume posting for his followers (a combined count of more than one million) anytime soon.
