MoonPay has unveiled Paybox, a decentralized AI wallet designed to let non-technical consumers use ChatGPT and Claude to make purchases and complete transactions autonomously, Fortune reported Thursday.
Rather than only researching products or comparing prices, AI agents connected to Paybox can pay for goods and services using funds supplied by users through bank accounts or crypto wallets, with no coding or software installation required.
According to the company, the wallet supports a range of transactions, including Amazon shopping, restaurant reservations, flight bookings, and other merchant payments compatible with AI agents. Users can also define spending controls, such as purchase limits or mandatory approval notifications, giving AI assistants controlled access to their funds while maintaining oversight.
MoonPay positions Paybox as an open alternative to AI payment offerings from Robinhood, Coinbase, and Visa.
Built on the x402 open protocol, the wallet does not depend on MoonPay’s authorization or prioritize specific merchants, allowing interoperability across online services and decentralized applications.
