Hundreds of thousands of euros in undeclared income and assets have been uncovered by Greece’s Anti-Money Laundering Authority in inspections targeting individuals who failed to file mandatory asset declarations or submitted blank forms.
In the first half of 2026, the authority reviewed 8,650 cases involving people legally required to disclose their financial holdings and identified 430 with concealed wealth of significant value.
Among roughly 8,000 non-filers, 350 were found to have hidden assets averaging about €900,000, while 80 of 650 individuals who submitted effectively blank declarations concealed assets averaging around €1 million.
The cases primarily involve local government officials, university employees, urban planning authorities, healthcare workers, journalists and contractors doing business with the Greek state.
Authorities said the findings resulted from risk-based data analysis and cross-checking of financial records.
