KZN Speaker Nontembeko Boyce is complaining that the budget allocated to the legislature is not enough.

KwaZulu-Natal Speaker Nontembeko Boyce has raised a concern that her legislature is being allocated a shoestring budget, which is not sufficient for it to operate effectively.

Boyce expressed the concern on Tuesday when she was tabling her budget of R894 million for the 2026/2027 financial year.

“While the Executive is allocated approximately R168,2 billion this year, the institution mandated to oversee that expenditure is allocated just R894m, which is approximately 0.5% of the total provincial budget,” she said.

She said the little budget leaves the legislature with limited resources to meaningfully oversee departments that manage hundreds of billions of rands.
