Two US service members are dead, four are injured, and one is missing after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched ballistic missile and drone strikes on American military facilities in Jordan on July 17. The attack targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Airbase, also known as Al-Azraq, one of the most strategically important US installations in the Middle East.
Bitcoin held steady near $65,000 in the days following the strikes, with no significant volatility reported across major digital assets.
What happened on the ground
The IRGC used Kheibar Shekan missiles in the July 17 operation. Around July 22, Iran claimed to have hit additional targets including Prince Hassan Air Base near Safawi and the Al-Faysal/King Faisal bases, specifically aiming at command centers and drone infrastructure.
The Muwaffaq Salti Airbase serves as a linchpin for US operations across the broader Middle East theater, enabling surveillance, strike missions, and logistical coordination across multiple theaters of conflict.
