Rose had alleged she was raped by a British banker in Hong Kong in 2024, but the District Court rejected her evidence, finding her allegations "completely fabricated". The court found that Rose had demanded HK$1.05 million (£100,000) from the man, who she had met in Thailand a month prior to the alleged incident. Judge Adriana Tse stated Rose had "not shown an iota of remorse" and had "taken advantage of his kindness, naivety, friendship and romantic interest". Rose's family and campaigners, including British charity For Black Women UK, have questioned the handling of the case and are seeking continued support for her.
