Former Ghanaian Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has publicly distanced himself from the arrest and prosecution of a National Democratic Congress (NDC) organiser accused of making offensive remarks and allegedly publishing false information about him, declaring that he neither filed any complaint nor authorised legal action against the young man.

His position comes at a time when concerns over the use of security agencies against critics continue to generate debate across Africa, with rights groups repeatedly accusing some governments, including Nigeria's, of deploying law enforcement agencies to arrest, detain and prosecute political opponents, activists and journalists over critical comments.
