Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked in London. At the event, Google showcased a deeply integrated suite of artificial intelligence (AI) features powering Samsung’s newest flagship devices. Leading the showcase is Gemini Intelligence, Google’s next-generation AI designed to handle complex everyday tasks proactively. Google outlined three major updates coming to the Samsung ecosystem.Expanded task automation with Gemini Intelligence on Samsung foldablesBuilding on a task automation beta launched earlier this year, Gemini can now handle routine “life admin” across more than 40 popular apps. Users can delegate tasks such as booking travel experiences, buying event tickets, making dinner reservations and ordering rideshares directly through the assistant. On the Galaxy Z Flip8, users can trigger task automation straight from the outer Flex Window by long-pressing the power button. The key upgrades powering these features include:Multimodal Screen Reasoning wherein Gemini can read what’s on your screen to execute requests, such as converting a photo of a handwritten grocery list into an online order.Background Execution where users can track Gemini's step-by-step progress, jump in to adjust details, or close the phone and let the AI run in the background. Gemini alerts the user when the task is ready for final review.Gemini Notebook now comes preinstalled on new Samsung foldablesTo help users organize complex projects, Google is bringing Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM) directly to Samsung's foldable lineup as a preinstalled app. It has been optimised for the larger inner screens of the Galaxy Z Fold8 series. Every new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 purchase includes a six-month trial of Google AI Pro, granting access to advanced multimodal features like Audio and Video Overviews.Hands-free AI for watches and smart glassesGoogle and Samsung are also taking Gemini beyond smartphones. On Galaxy Watch 9, users can activate Gemini by raising their wrist—no wake word required. Samsung launched Samsung smart glasses partnership with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, and these wearables can be controlled via Wear OS wrist gestures.At the event, Google unveiled two additional frame designs for its smart glasses lineup, confirming that users wearing a compatible Wear OS smartwatch will be able to navigate their glasses using simple hand gestures.
