The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert as the monsoon remains active across the country, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in 11 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, on July 23.An active southwest monsoon is likely to bring heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of West Bengal till June 24, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday.The northern districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar could receive heavy downpour from July 26-29, the IMD said in a bulletin.It said heavy rainfall will occur in the coastal districts of North and South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur till July 24.The sub-Himalayan districts, which received heavy rainfall over the last several days, are likely to experience light to moderate rain over the next few days, the bulletin stated.Haldia in Purba Medinipur district received the highest rainfall in the state at 79 mm in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday.Other places that were lashed by heavy rain during the period include Kanthi (55 mm), Asansol (53 mm), Bankura (46 mm) and Alipurduar (34 mm), the bulletin said.Gujarat Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain is likely over the Gujarat region. Heavy rainfall is also expected over Saurashtra and Kutch. Thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places across the state. Along the Gujarat coast, squally winds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are expected over the Arabian Sea.Maharashtra Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rain is likely over Madhya Maharashtra. Konkan and Goa are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Squally winds of 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, are likely along the north Maharashtra coast. Pune is expected to witness mostly cloudy weather over the next six days, with light rain likely on July 24 and 25. From July 26 onwards, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy during the morning before turning generally cloudy by evening or night, with the possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squally winds. Rajasthan East Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while heavy rainfall is forecast over West Rajasthan. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely.Madhya Pradesh Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected.Uttar Pradesh No heavy rainfall warning has been issued. However, the state may continue to experience monsoon activity in some areas.Bihar Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Vidarbha Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.Marine warning The IMD has advised fishermen and maritime operators to exercise caution as squally winds of up to 65 kmph are likely over parts of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Mannar.
