US President Donald Trump has commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his decisive leadership in tackling terrorism and security challenges, particularly attacks targeting Christian communities.

​In a letter dated July 6, 2026, President Trump praised the administration’s resolve and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts. Details of the correspondence were made public on Wednesday by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga.

​Deepening Bilateral Defence Ties

​President Trump emphasised that the bilateral relationship is vital as security challenges expand across West Africa. He highlighted the U.S.–Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap as a robust framework for mutual counter-terrorism objectives.
