The Western Cape High Court sentenced the man convicted of raping and murdering eight-year-old Daniel Jamneck to life imprisonment, closing a case that exposed how a known repeat sex offender had been allowed to remain free.

The accused, who cannot be named to protect his minor son, was seen crying in the dock as the sentence was handed down.

He received a life sentence for Daniel's rape and a second life sentence for his murder. He was also sentenced to 10 years for the rape of Caryn Brown and eight years for the sexual assault of Daniel, with those three sentences running concurrently with the life term for the murder.

Daniel was raped and strangled to death on 15 June 2023 during a sleepover at a friend’s flat in Peerless Park North, Kraaifontein, Cape Town.
