A fire mishap took place while firecrackers were being exploding during a church festival at Vakkampatti in Dindigul district on Tuesday night.

About 15 people were injured in a firework accident at a church festival in Dindigul on Wednesday.The festival of St. Antony and Madalai Mary Church in Vakkampatti, Athoor taluk, Dindigul district, began on July 18 with the flag hoisting event.The main event of the festival, the electric chariot procession, began on Tuesday night in front of the church. At that time, firecrackers were burst to welcome the chariot.Unexpectedly, a spark fell on a pile of firecrackers stacked nearby.The firecrackers exploded all at once, spreading fire over the public gathered there. Shocked by this, people ran in panic.In this accident, 15 people sustained burn injuries, including Karan, 24, from Kalnattanpatti, Wilson, 35, from Tiruchi, Mariya Leon Raj, 21, from Kuttathavarampatti, Arockiyasamy, 55, from Vakkampatti, Robin Arulraj, 26, from Kottapatti, Lokesh, 22, from Kummampatti, Mariya Nisha, 19, Jhansi, 45, and Mariya Jacqueline, 33, from Vakkampatti, and Donia,19, from Maravapatti.They were immediately rescued and admitted for treatment to the Dindigul Government Medical College Hospital by autos and cars.Karan, 24, who sustained severe injuries, is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Dindigul, and Bharath Krishna, 20, from Kalnaattanpatti has been admitted at the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.
