Leader of "Revival" Kostadin Kostadinov
Revival leader Kostadin Kostadinov said Bulgaria is facing the danger of war after Parliament approved the temporary deployment of up to eight US tanker aircraft and as many as 250 American military personnel at the Bezmer Air Base in support of US operations in the Middle East.
Speaking after the vote, Kostadinov argued that the decision had placed Bulgaria at greater risk. He referred to a diplomatic note from Iran, saying it had been delivered directly to Parliament by the Iranian ambassador and handed to Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group leader Petar Vitanov. According to Kostadinov, the document was more direct than an earlier communication and should be taken seriously.
"This makes me worried, because if Iran decides to strike Bulgaria, which it now has a legitimate right to do, we can do nothing," he said, claiming that Bulgaria had openly joined the conflict through the parliamentary decision.
Kostadinov also dismissed assurances that the United States would protect Bulgaria in the event of retaliation. He argued that Washington had failed to defend its own military bases in the Middle East and claimed Iranian forces had successfully targeted them.
