The Department of Paediatrics at KBN Hospital, in association with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), organised a CPR Awareness Day programme on Tuesday (July 21) to mark Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Day. Medical Superintendent Siddalinga Chengti explained the meaning and importance of CPR, the situations in which it should be administered and the step-by-step procedure involved in performing the life-saving technique. He also highlighted the need to improve public awareness of CPR in India.Paediatrics professor Charanraj spoke on paediatric CPR and explained the techniques involved in administering CPR to children. Doctor Vijaya delivered a session on managing choking emergencies and the role of CPR in such situations.Medical Dean Guruprasad commended the Department of Paediatrics for organising the programme and appreciated the prompt response demonstrated by postgraduate students and hospital staff during the practical demonstrations.As part of the programme, hands-on demonstrations of CPR were conducted using mannequins, following which medical students were given practical training under the guidance of faculty members.To emphasise on the importance of timely intervention during medical emergencies, participants were shown CCTV footage of a senior postgraduate student administering CPR to a patient on a stretcher while hospital staff rushed the patient for emergency treatment.The programme was compered by Vinod Upalavkar, Head of the Department of Paediatrics.
