Asanda Fakude has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Vryheid Regional Court for the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend.
For the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Asanda Fakude was sentenced to 30 years of direct imprisonment by the Vryheid Regional Court.
The fatal incident occurred on February 16 2026 at Gegund Farm, which falls within the Vryheid policing precinct.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said Fakude had invited his girlfriend to spend Valentine’s Day with him; however, she did not honour the invitation.
“On the Monday, which was February 16, driven by anger over her failure to meet him, the accused confronted the victim. The confrontation escalated into a violent assault during which he repeatedly assaulted her until she succumbed to her injuries,” said Magwaza.
