Asanda Fakude has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Vryheid Regional Court for the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend.
A Vryheid Regional Court has sentenced a man to 30 years' direct imprisonment for the brutal murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend after she failed to spend Valentine's Day with him.
On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, the court sentenced Asanda Fakude for the murder of the teenager at Gegund Farm, within the Vryheid policing precinct, on February 21 2026.
According to evidence presented in court, Fakude had invited his girlfriend to spend Valentine's Day with him on February 14, but she did not honour the invitation.
Two days later, on Monday, February 16, he confronted the teenager over her failure to meet him. The argument escalated into a violent attack during which Fakude repeatedly assaulted her until she died from her injuries.
