FIFA believes Nigeria has all the ingredients needed to qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, but says one crucial factor will determine whether the Super Eagles end their recent absence from football’s biggest stage.
In its review of Nigeria’s prospects, the world football governing body acknowledged the country’s rich pool of talent but argued that success in the next qualification campaign will depend more on stability than ability.
“The Super Eagles have soared into the last 16 at half of the six World Cup tournaments that they have contested, namely in 1994, 1998 and 2014, but have been absent from the last two editions,” FIFA said.
Nigeria’s hopes of featuring at the 2026 World Cup ended in disappointment after Eric Chelle’s side fell at the final hurdle of the qualification process.
The Super Eagles finished second behind South Africa in Group C of the African qualifiers, securing a place in the second round to compete for a spot in the intercontinental play-offs.
